Default Gaining access to your credit report online...

I got my free, annual credit report because something derogatory had been put in my file. I requested online access, which I think everyone with a computer should do instead paying someone else for access.

I found out that a judgment was on my report, that wasn't mine. It had to have been linked to an ex-husband because once I answered questions about former addresses and vehicles I had owned, the information was removed.

Be sure to get access to your information! It can pay off, even if there are things in your file that must remain!

I agree that you should review your credit report frequently; I say at least twice a year. I actually have credit monitoring but regardless keeping up with your credit is a must. Online is a good way to gain access as opposed to physically showing up to request it as it is much more convenient and as you mentioned leaves the [physical] middle man out.

You bring up a great transitional concern with divorce. You'd be amazed how many individuals' credit has been ruined because of a debt either their spouse brought into the marriage or one that remained jointly on both reports after divorce.

I'm glad you were able to get it resolved! The process sometimes can be much more cumbersome, to the point of insanity! Thus the birth of companies that actually help you through the process. Not that i recommend them, but I'm sure there are some good ones out there.
